Jewels of the Alpine
Overall the tour was excellent. Both the tour director and driver were also excelent. The tour director went out of his way to accomodate peoples individual needs. He worked very hard. My primary suggestion would be regarding the castle in Germany. Your discription didn't exactly identify the difficulty of getting to the castle and the number of steps to be walked. (There wrere over 400 counting up and down). Though we rode up the mountain, we had to walk down a somewhat steep grade about a mile to get to the castle. That was unexpected. Otherwise, all was excellent.
Jewels of Alpine Europe Tour
It was a good choice to vacation in areas blessed by the beautiful Alpine Mountain scenery. The valleys, lakes, and city views were spectacular throughout the trip in each of the countries. The excursion options allowed us to get up close and personal with these natural wonders. Each of the cities offered their own extraordinary architectural displays with rich historic roots. All the peoples we encountered were personable and welcoming. The tour program keeps you moving, especially if you choose to go on several excursions. Yet, we did have the freedom to make our own personal choices to match our pace and, there are scheduled independent times. The tour director was awesome!! He was both knowledgeable and informative in all presentations. His personality was very pleasant, warm, and genuinely caring. In my opinion, he went the "extra mile" to add unique and memorable experiences to our trip.
Absolutely beautiful
We just returned from the Jewels of the Alpine trip and I cannot even to begin to describe how beatiful it was. Spectacular scenery, gorgeous lakes, breathtaking views from mountaintops. Our guide was wonderful -- knowledgeable, informative, organized, patient, attentive, and adorable. I have to admit, this was my favorite trip of 6 go aheads I have travelled on over the last several year.s
Alpine Europe
In this trip you get breathtaking scenery of the Alps from Switzerland and the cities of different countries on its border-France, Italy, Leichtenstein, Austria and Germany. Likewise, you savor different cuisine, culture, art , history, architecture and scenery of these countries, One of the highlights of the tour is going to Leichtenstein, a country in itself, but just like any self governing city. One thing I would have liked to see and did not see are those musicians with the long pipes which are always shown in brochures for Switzerland. There is so much to do and see in Lake Como so I suggest leaving early to get there so one can do as much like going up the funicular, seeing what's up there and taking a walking tour of Como also, before the scheduled cruise and visits.
We loved the Jewels of the Alpine trip!
This tour showed some of the little known secrets of these cities, such as the "dying lion" in Lucerne. We found that the city guides are great to listen to as they know a lot about their local culture and they are friendly and willing to answer questions. Our tour guide was great, as was our bus driver! Everyone made the experience enjoyable!
Beautiful scenes. Disappointing tour director.
This was our 7th Goahead tour. Our fellow-travellers were nice and many beautiful and exciting areas were visited. Maybe we are spoiled by having had 3 previous great TD's (Patrick, Frank, and Alex) but we were disappointed in Giordano. He was very kind and I feel sad having to mention his short-comings. He had a heavy Italain accent and spoke softly on the bus so he was hard to understand. His discussions were short and lacked depth. I enjoy reading and history and think I could have given a better talk about many of the areas we visited. Our previous TD's typically took us on orientation walks in each new city after arrival, usually after dinner which was very helpful. Giordano didn't do this. I think Giordano needs more training. He is likely better with kids on EF tours. I have spent this time discussing this because the TD is crucial to an exciting trip and your company promotes excellent TD's in your advertising. When I wrote an email while on tour about this on tour, I was told that we could not find out about our TD until 1 month before we leave on a tour. However, multiple TD's on past tours have told us that they know their schedule months in advance. We have always in the past been thinking about our next Goahead Tour as soon as we get home from one, but now we are not sure what to do. We just don't want another weak guide.
Our Alpine Tour
The tour was a lot of fun. We saw places that we had allways heard about and now we have great memories of being there. Our tour director did a great job pointing out interesting sites along the way and his knowledge of the cities we were in was extensive. We had a great time and are looking forward to our next trip.
JEWELS OF ALPINE EUROPE
WHAT AN AMAZING ADVENTURE FOR ME. MY FIRST BIG TRIP AND I DID IT ALONE. EVERYONE OF THE OTHER TOURISTS WERE AWESOME. OUR DRIVER BRUNO WAS THE THE BEST DRIVER EVER, AND JERGEN OUR GUIDE MADE THE TRIP EVERYTHING AND MORE THAN I EXPECTED. I WILL BE SAVING FOR MY NEXT TRIP AND I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO USE GO AHEAD AGAIN AND AGAIN.
Alps
Great trip. Lots of bus time however. Could use 2 nights in St. Moritz rather than one. Too fast to explore mountaintops. Suggest Extension in Salzberg rather than Munich.
Jewels of the Alpine (Hofer Group 2012)
IN 2008, we traveled with Go Ahead to England and Ireland. I thought that experience could not be topped... I was wrong. Our Jewels of the Alpines tour was OUTSTANDING! Our tour guide, Paula Noad, deserves the credit for making this an unforgetable experience. Her expert knowledge, engaging personality, and flexibility in adjusting to the unique interests our our group was a critical factor in making the trip such an amazing success. When asked which city, mountain, or lake was my favorite, I honestly struggle to pick just one. Looking forward to the next opportunity!
