Passport & Visa
In order to enter France, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport. The expiration date must extend at least six months beyond the date of your return home. Airlines have varying weight restrictions on luggage. Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage; be advised that you are responsible for any such costs. Contact your airline for detailed information regarding luggage size and weight restrictions for your flight, but please note that Go Ahead travelers are restricted to one checked bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other internal transfers, which may include train connections or flights. One carry-on bag is also permitted, provided that it does not exceed 45 total inches (length + width + height). Make sure you label your baggage and carry valuables, medication and documents in your carry-on bag.
Clothing & Packing Tips
We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered. For sightseeing, we suggest bringing a sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers, as well as a lightweight jacket or rainwear. If you’re planning a visit to a high-end restaurant or performance, you may also want to bring dressier attire. Also, please be respectful and avoid showing bare legs or shoulders when visiting churches or other religious sites (entrance may be denied on this basis).
The euro is the currency you will be using on your tour. Better rates of exchange are usually available in your destination countries, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive. We advise that you take a combination of bank/ATM cards and credit cards, as needed. We suggest that you inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
For the most casual snack or picnic, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, patés, cured meats, freshbaked bread and fruit. Sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, filled with cheese, ham, fruit or chocolate. Mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from the cafés. On the restaurant scene, the prix fixe option is popular, offering a three- or four-course set menu for a good price.
Arrival & Transportation Information Round-trip flights arrive in and depart from Paris. After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, a shuttle service will provide your transfer to your hotel (details will be sent to you prior to your departure).
At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity. We recommend tipping in your tour country’s currency, the equivalent of $3USD/CAD per person per day for your driver and $6USD/CAD to $9USD/CAD per person per day for your Tour Director. If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD/CAD per local guide. Tips can only be paid in cash. Please keep current local currency exchange rates in mind when tipping.

Best tour director
Patrick for president! This was my third Goaheadtours tour and he was the best director I've had thus far! My sister and I learned so much and got to see a whole different side to the city I love so much! He helped us do things on our own as well as add extra little tours and experiences to the trip. Never have I ever been so sad to come home, then from Spring time in Paris. I highly recommend coming this time of the year and don't miss out on Monet's gardens! I always feel so safe on Goaheadtour trips and it's worth every cent just meeting the other group members and having personal tours through attractions. Can't wait to come back!
The best City Stay
I have taken a few city stays and this was right up there with the best. Our Tour Director Patrick was the best tour director I have had in my last 3 or 4 tours. He really catered to our wants and was helpful when I was on my own. He gave us printouts of directions to places and suggestions for places to eat near our hotel. I gave this tour a 4 star rating instead of 5 star because the Notre Dame/Marais walk was a bit long and would have benefited with a short break between the two places. Also, I didn't think it was a good idea to have two included meals on the same day, after a mid-day lunch I really wasn't that hungry for the dinner. After reading some of the reviews for the Mercure Montparnasse I was a bit concerned, mostly about the area but now I know it was the best place to be with 3 metro stations, lots of nearby restaurants and many places of interests that were easy to walk to. If I ever go to Paris without GoAhead, I would book that hotel. It was clean and the personnel were pleasant. Although I had friends from home on this tour, I wanted it to be sort of a "Paris, my way" experience and I did many things on my own. I thought it might be daunting considering my age but Patrick made it easy for me and I was quite comfortable walking around the city on my own. I believe this was my 11th GoAhead tour and I recommend GoAhead to many people.
The Perfect Vacation
What a fantastic trip! Everything was so well planned and executed. Vanessa (our tour guide) was the BEST! She was always there to answer questions and give great touring advise. The walking tours that she guided were some of the most interesting and enjoyable times I had. Her knowlege and passion for the city was infectious. The hotel, location and travel arrangements couldn't have been better. This was my first trip of this type and I would travel with Go Ahead anytime, and will. If you have any reservations about this tour, take a deep breath and DO IT! You will be amazed. Keep up the good work Go Ahead.
Paris and Patrick !
So this was my first trip with Go Ahead Tours. It has been a wonderful experience from the start. Booking was easy and the staff was very knowledgeable. I was fully informed from the start and all questions were answered. There was no high pressure because they know they have an excellent product. The last time I was out of the states was when I was in the Air Force, so carrying a camera was better than carrying an M-16. When I arrived Patrick took over. He has a real passion for his job and attention to detail. You know from the first minute that you are in great hands. The hotel was fabulous and the staff was very attentive. Patrick gave us all great recommendations and he was always spot on. He knew when to guide and when to step back and let us explore. I was planning on booking another trip before I left and now I know I will be booking another trip to Paris before the new year. I cannot say thank you enough to Go Ahead Tours and Patrick for making the week in Paris magical. If you have never been out of the states do this tour first. You won't regret it.
Paris City Tour
What can I say it's Paris! Who could not fall in love with this city. Hotel was nice., Vanessa our tour host was just amazing !!! She was always there to great with a warm hello and big smile and willing to answer any questions that you may have had, no matter how silly it may have sounded. I would and will recommend this tour and Go Ahead tour to my family and friends! Keep up the good work...
First European Experience
This was my first trip overseas. I went with a group of family and friends including my thirteen year old daughter. We had a wonderful time in Paris. The weather didn't cooperate very well but we just tossed on raincoats and umbrellas and we made the best of the experience. Our tour director, Thierry, was phenomenal and very helpful in answering any questions we had. The hotel was great and close to the metro, shops, and many different restaurants. The excursions to Versailles and Giverny were wonderful and we saw everything we wanted to see. We did get to Disney in Paris during one of our free days. We enjoyed the mixture of planned excursions and unplanned time to just explore Paris on our own. We had a wonderful time and looking forward to another trip through Go Ahead.
The hotel (Best Western) left much to be desired. While we are fully aware that hotel rooms in Europe tend to be small, this space barely provided area to turn around in without bumping into the wall,or, some other worn furniture item. The hotel was dirty, the rooms were not well maintained, breakfast(adequate) was the exact same for the five days on site, the small courtyard did not provide privacy for those both inside and outside of their rooms. In addition ,the hotel is not centrally located, and also not in a nice area of town.. The so called cruise was not on a dinner boat ,and, the first evening dinner was in an average neighborhood "pub". All in all we felt that the trip was poor value for the cost, and we,would have been happier with a greater "bottom line"which lived up to the tour information. Unfortunately, the experience will impact our decision to travel with this company again. On a positive note:We thoroughly enjoyed the members of our tour group! **We would recommend this tour with qualifications!!
Dear Carol, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on your recent tour to Paris. As we talked about today, it is very common for the hotel rooms in Europe to be small, especially in large cities. The other issues you have described with your hotel are absolutely not up to Go Ahead’s quality standards and will definitely be addressed. I’m glad your trip was a success overall, and I thank you again for sharing this information with us.

Hotel Not Near Attractions
When I was looking to book a tour to France I contacted Go Ahead Tours due to our having traveled to Budapest, Vienna, & Prague with them. I specifically asked about the location of the hotel - due to the hotels in the previous tour being outside of the city. I was told that this type of trip is different - a city stay - which means we would be within Paris near attractions. Your brochure told me we would be in Montparness, which is close to attractions. When you changed the hotel you moved it further away from the attractions of Paris. We were well aware that Paris is a walking city and knew we would be riding the metro. What we did not know was that we could not walk to any attraction and usually had to take more than 1 metro to get to where we wanted to be. I found this to be disappointing and made me question using your services again. What I learned from this experience is that I can not rely on what is told to you before the trip. I am better off making all of the arrangements by myself. As a matter of fact I am totally booking my next vacation without a tour company. This trip the tour guide was not available at convenient hours. He usually was there after people have left for the day. So unless we planned to wait to 11 am or later to see him, then we had no contact with him. We did not book the Versailles tour, however the couple we were vacationing with did. They were very late due to being delayed by an accident on the highway. Okay...that does happen. But when you lost one of them while going through the castle you did not try to find her. Instead you just kept going. Luckily she was able to find her husband. They ended taking the metro home instead of the bus. The headphone equipment provided to her did not work properly. That was how she was left behind.

The Perfect Balance
Our Paris City Experience was only the second trip we have ever taken with a tour company. All other world travel has been on our own. The city tour gave us the options we wanted for organized tours such as Monet's home and gardens in Giverney and the tour of the city by bus. These excursions would have been complicated to arrange on our own. There was plenty of time to seek out the adventures we wanted to do on our own. Patrick is an outstanding guide; knowledgeable, friendly, considerate of individual concerns and always accessible. If we could change one thing, it would be the 13 hour plane ride! For an 80-year old and 70-year old that's saying a lot!
Best Tour Director
I am back from my Paris City tour with Go Ahead tours. My group had a wonderful time in Paris. Patrick was a wonderful tour director. He was always ready to help us with directions and make sure we got to see everything we wanted to see. He made sure we had all the information for our excursions, and that he walked us right through the process. I cannot say enough about his professionalism and knowledge of the language and history of France. We felt he was really invested in all of us ( 41 people ) having a good experience in Paris. The excursions were great. The only negative I can comment on was the location of the hotel. We were at the Paris Marriott, and although it was a beautiful hotel, we did not believe it was centrally located as promised. The tour book and your web sight had originally listed the Best Westin St Germain. There was not a lot to see in walking distance of our hotel. We seemed like we were on the outskirts of Paris. Every time we wanted to see something we had to walk 15 minutes to metro station and take at the least two metro lines. This was exhausting at the end of the day. All in all, I would not hesitate to sign up for another Go Ahead Tour.
