Passport & Visa

In order to enter France, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport. The expiration date must extend at least six months beyond the date of your return home. No visa is required for U.S. or Canadian citizens. If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact the French consulate for your specific entry requirements.

Baggage Allowance

Airlines have varying weight restrictions on luggage. Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage; be advised that you are responsible for any such costs. Contact your airline for detailed information regarding luggage size and weight restrictions for your flight, but please note that Go Ahead travelers are restricted to one checked bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other internal transfers, which may include train connections or flights. One carry-on bag is also permitted, provided that it does not exceed 45 total inches (length + width + height). Make sure you label your baggage and carry valuables, medication and documents in your carry-on bag.

Clothing & Packing Tips

We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered. For sightseeing, we suggest bringing a sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers, as well as a lightweight jacket or rainwear. If you’re planning a visit to a high-end restaurant or performance, you may also want to bring dressier attire. Also, please be respectful and avoid showing bare legs or shoulders when visiting churches or other religious sites (entrance may be denied on this basis).

Currency

The euro is the currency you will be using on your tour. Better rates of exchange are usually available in your destination countries, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive. We advise that you take a combination of bank/ATM cards and credit cards, as needed. We suggest that you inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.

Cuisine

For the most casual snack or picnic, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, patés, cured meats, freshbaked bread and fruit. Sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, filled with cheese, ham, fruit or chocolate. Mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from the cafés. On the restaurant scene, the prix fixe option is popular, offering a three- or four-course set menu for a good price.

Arrival & Transportation Information Round-trip flights arrive in and depart from Paris. After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, a shuttle service will provide your transfer to your hotel (details will be sent to you prior to your departure).

Tipping

At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity. We recommend tipping in your tour country’s currency, the equivalent of $3USD/CAD per person per day for your driver and $6USD/CAD to $9USD/CAD per person per day for your Tour Director. If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD/CAD per local guide. Tips can only be paid in cash. Please keep current local currency exchange rates in mind when tipping.

Best Tour Director Patrick

Everything about this GoAhead tour was exceptional - the hotel staff, the sites, the communication, the food, but most of all the Tour Director, Patrick. On the first day, I was in Paris on my own, I broke my ankle. The Tour director was incredibly helpful, especially since I spoke no French. The hotel staff was so accommodating, even bus drivers. This tour company was "the best."

Optional Tours

We paid before trip for advertised optionals. One of the tours had to be cancelled, due to lack of participants. We were informed our money would be refunded.Upon return home,we made an inquiry. We were told sometimes, the company sent a check, sometimes refunded the credit on file. A month later, still no refund, another inquiry, still no info, no money. Not good business or public relations

Eileen, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We apologize for any confusion or frustrations regarding your optional excursion refunds. When optional excursions are cancelled on tour, refunds are processed back to the main form of payment for your tour, or in the form of a check if specifically requested. The refund can only be processed after the financial information from your tour is received from your Tour Director and processed internally. Due to a range of factors including seasonality, tour region and length of tour this process can take up to 1-3 months after the conclusion of your tour. We understand this timeframe might be inconvenient, and we are currently looking into ways to improve this process. We thank you for your feedback and for traveling with Go Ahead. We hope to see you back on tour soon!

A really great tour

We travelled to Paris on June 6th of 2015, me, my wife and two adult (27 and 21) daughters, along with a family friend. Our tour of Paris was perfect. A direct flight, very little hassle getting through security and customs at all--in fact, practically none either going or coming back made getting there and home very easy. Our hotel, the Hotel Ampere was not only a really wonderful place with surprisingly (for Europe) comfortable rooms but also a great staff and wonderful location--just outside the city center (17th District), so it gave an urban feel without being overcrowded--and the selection of restaurants and cafes on our roundabout was excellent. Patrick , our tour guide, was outstanding, really made the entire experience even better with his sense of humor, his extremely personable nature and his attentiveness. Despite being in a group, he made us feel like we were on a private tour many times, something very hard to do and much appreciated. Our other guides for excursions, Isabelle, who took us on our tour of Paris and Brian, who gave us (especially my wife and I who are college History professors) an outstanding tour of the palace at Versailles, were both also magnificent. I think staying in one hotel, one city contributed to making this as enjoyable as it was for us--no need to re-pack and unpack, more free time to explore on our own, more time to really fully enjoy this gem of a city. The best thing I can say is that this tour made us want to come back to Paris very, very soon. This was a truly amazing trip

Best Introduction to Paris

Patrick was a fun and knowledgeable guide. Our hotel was in a great neighborhood and accessible to many points of interests. I would have enjoyed the Louvre being included in the tour itinerary. However, that just leaves reason for repeat tour dates!

Lovely

I took my granddaughter to Paris and was delighted with everything about this tour. First our hotel was perfect. Located in a residential area with large beautifully appointed rooms, the staff was friendly and helpful. We were close to cafes and shops as well as the Metro. The optional tours provided us with choice which was perfect. Our tour guide, Brian, was so good. He was helpful, knowledgeable and so easy to work with. We had a great time and it made my first trip to Paris better than I ever expected. I will definitely being going back via GoAHead tours.

Great until the end

We (4 gals) had a fab time. The Guide was the best (Susanne). However, at the end of a great 8 days, we were dropped off at CDH airport a half-hour full-speed hike from our departure gate. Note-- that was with all our luggage.

Outstanding Tour Director

Brian Haldeman was our tour director for our Paris tour. Not only was Brian informative and passionate about sharing Paris with all of us but he had all kinds of interesting side stories about what we were seeing and a wonderful sense of humor. Go Ahead Tours is lucky to have such a bright star representing their company! Our Paris experience would not have been as rich without all of Brian's insights. Merci Brian!! Also, our hotel room was lovely and the staff gracious. The welcome dinner was delicious and all of the additional tours we selected were amazing. We especially loved the Monet House and Garden tour. We arrived early in the morning when the dew was still on the flowers and everything smelled so good - it was magical!

Great Paris Experience!!!

From arrival to departure my Go Ahead tour experience was everything I had hoped for. Our tour director Brian was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic he was a joy to be around and was always available to give suggestions about traveling, eating, and sightseeing in Paris. I learned a lot about daily life at the court of Versailles from Thierry, our guide for the day, who was so much fun. I only wish that we would have had more time to explore the gardens and Marie Antoinette's palace and hamlet. The excursion to Monet's home at Giverny is not to be missed. The gardens were in full bloom and looked just like the beautiful paintings created by Monet. Our hotel was great. My room and bed was very comfortable and the staff was welcoming and attentive. My recommendation of this tour is Go Go Go Ahead!!!

Unforgettable

This was the first time we left our country. Our whole experience was phenomenal. Brian, our tour guide, went the extra mile for us. His knowledge of Paris is mind blowing, what a fun storyteller he is. His knowledge of Paris' history, made it so fun and interesting. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who would like a trip of a lifetime. Thank you Go Ahead Tours and Brian.

Long Awaited Paris Trip

This was the best vacation that I ever had. My only thing with the hotel was that the rooms should be cleaned earlier.. The food was okay, I do feel there should have been more optional excursions. but even that was no big deal. Our tour director, Brian was out of this world. I could not have asked for a better one. He got on the Metro with us more than once to make sure we got where we wanted to go. He went above and beyond.
