Tour pace

  • All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.

  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication and documents in your carry-on bag.

Cuisine

  • Throughout France, you’ll find endless opportunities to sample wonderful food at every price range.
  • For a picnic with French flair, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, pâtés, cured meats, fresh-baked bread and fruit. In the cities, sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, while mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from cafes. In restaurants, the prix fixe option is a popular way to enjoy a set three- or four-course menu for a good price.
  • Although lunch is generally served from noon until 2pm, dinner is served from 7:30pm onward. Those wishing to eat earlier can stop at a cafe, where light entrées and sandwiches are available throughout the afternoon and evening.

Electricity & air conditioning

  • France operates on the European standard 220-240 volts and uses Types C, E or F plugs with two small, round pins.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other electrical device without a built-in converter.
  • The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotel may provide hairdryers, irons and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.

Connectivity

  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.

Time zones

  • France is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST).
  • When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6pm in Paris.

Currency

  • You will use the euro in France.
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.

Tipping

  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
  • We recommend tipping the equivalent of $6USD/CAD to $9USD/CAD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD/CAD per person per day for your driver.
  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD/CAD per local guide.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.

Paris - Sep 16

From the beginning, this tour was well planned and executed. All the events were as advertised and the Tour Director was truly exceptional. While other hotels may be in more historic areas, the Mercure Montparnasse was the right place at the right time. The neighbor offered great choices and was a true insight into Paris life. We look forward to future trips with Go Ahead Tours

Dream trip, awesome tour guide!

This was an amazing travel experience from the very beginning of signing up through the very end when we left Paris. This was my first trip to Europe and was nervous to try to plan it all out myself but this is where Go Ahead steps in and takes care of all the travel worries with lots of coordination and ease. The hotel, dinners and the excursions were all wonderful, I could not have planned myself any better! Brian our tour guide was very accessible and wonderful the entire trip. I'm definitely booking a future trip with Go Ahead as soon as I can!

The Best Birthday Trip Ever!

I traveled to Paris for my 35th birthday. This was the best experience I've had in traveling abroad. Paris was more amazing than I had in my dreams. Everything about this tour went according to plan. Greg our tour director was a funny guy with a wicked sense of humor but overall a great tour director. The only negative thing I could say about the tour was that the weather wasn't cooperating but even still it didn't stop me from having a good time and enjoying myself. I'm truly thankful to Go Ahead tours for making my dream vacation because true. I will definitely be booking another tour through Go Ahead and will recommend to my family and friends. Thank you!

Hi Rodney! Happy belated birthday! We’re delighted to hear that this tour was the best experience you’ve had abroad. We’re sorry to hear the weather wasn’t cooperating, but happy you still had fun. We’re truly thankful you chose Go Ahead, and we thank you for sharing your experience. We can’t wait to welcome you on your next tour!

Best Director Tour

Patrick was amazing, our city tour bus leader was amazing, I loved learning about the history of the city which I would have never known on my own, I highly recommend this tour to everyone. GoAhead Tours took wonderful care of me because I was a frightened, 1st time traveler to Europe and was traveling alone. Being part of that group was the best thing that could have happened to me.

My Paris Trip

May 16th 2016 I woke up this morning to a fabulous breakfast bar!! Hot food and cold food just about anything you could wish for. So I hopped on the tour bus with a full tummy and a spring in my step. We went all over Paris and saw all of the sites up close and even got to hop off the bus to take a few pictures!! After I was dropped off at the hotel I grabbed my metro map and headed to the Louvre!! The company that I had contracted with, Viator, gave me really bad directions and I wasted an hour just trying to get my ticket! Once I got in to the Louvre however, things were even worse! It was so loud and so crowded and almost impossible to find anything! I got to see the Mona Lisa and The Winged Victory, but it was already time to get back to the hotel. I was thrilled to have dinner with a dear friend of mine from graduate school. Tomorrow I will head over to the Musee d'Orsay, my favorite art museum. Then I will join a walking tour with our group and afterward grab something to eat in time to catch the 9 o'clock show at Moulin Rouge!!! Hugs all around!! May 17th 2016 I slept in a bit and then had a wonderful breakfast. Then I headed over to meet my private tour guide at the Muse d'Orsay. We concentrated on the Pre-Impressionist, Impressionist, and Post-Impressionist period... My favorite of all!! Then I join the walking tour of Montmartre. We took the funicular up to Sacre Coeur, but it was under construction and we couldn't get inside. I did a little shopping and went back to the hotel to get my ticket for tonight's show at the Moulin Rouge. It was a fabulous show with lots of beautiful costumes and scenery and I had an absolute blast!! But I must say that I expect my feet to fall off at any moment?????????? Cheers!! May 18th 2016 After our scrumptious breakfast including crapes, we left early at 8 AM heading for Provins, an old city from the medieval times. We climbed the old stairs up to the top of the towers for a good view. We walked around the little quaint town and had a Brie cheese and cider tasting! We had a light lunch late in the afternoon of quiche and salad and rose ice cream ?? It was getting late so we piled on the bus and headed the two hours back to our hotel. I had been itching for a Lemon crepe all day, so I walked for two blocks and came to a very nice Creperie. Heaven!! Tomorrow we head out at 9 AM for A tour of Versailles Palace and the gardens!! And in the evening there will be a dinner for the whole group and a ride on the Seine River at night... Sadly our last night in Paris! Truly the City of Lights ?? May 19th 2016 Well, today was my last day in Paris and as happy as I will be to get home, I will surely leave a large piece of my heart in Paris and London!!! We left this morning at 9am, heading for Versailles Palace where it was rainy and cold. Once we got inside we warmed up and had a terrific tour of some of the rooms, including The Hall of Mirrors!! We went out to see the perfectly manicured garden...but NO flowers! We left Versailles and headed back to the hotel and I took the opportunity to pack and relax a bit. At 6pm, our tour guide took the whole group to a nice French restaurant and the meal was Devine!! After dinner we all spent a lovely hour on a cruise on the Seine!! Our Tour Guide, Julian, was amazing and so informative! The drivers and other tour guides we very good as well. The perfect ending to the perfect holiday!!! Tomorrow will be a long day...and I look forward to seeing you all again!! Abiento!!

Hi Karen! Thank you for your journal-style review! We loved getting a glimpse of your wonderful experience. Between the world-renowned art, the iconic sites, and the delicious food scene, it sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. We’re so pleased to hear it! Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you on tour again.
