Day4
Don your shades to see and be seen on the glamorous Costa del Sol
Breakfast, Dinner
Located on the Costa del Sol, Marbella was founded by the Romans and has found new life as a vacation hot spot. After spending an afternoon exploring the town’s historic quarter with your Tour Director, you may want to hit the range at the nearby Los Naranjos Golf Club before your group dinner.
Day5
Stop to smell the oranges on the back nine at Los Naranjos
Breakfast
Take a moment to stop and smell the oranges at Los Naranjos. Earning its name from the orange groves winding through its back nine, Los Naranjos is considered one of Robert Trent Jones’ best efforts and Southern Spain’s finest courses. Much like Valderrama, this Spanish top-50 course is renowned for its narrow, treelined fairways, dramatic bunkers and fast-and-firm greens. After your round, you’re free to relax and spend another afternoon as you like in Costa del Sol.
Day6
Give your clubs a rest—or give them a go at La Reserva de Sotogrande
Breakfast
Continue soaking in the warmth of the sunkissed Costa del Sol during your round at La Reserva, one of the top five courses that draw golfers to Sotogrande. The course is laid out in two valleys and borders the Mediterranean, so there’s no shortage of dramatic scenery or memorable shots.
Optional Excursions
Morocco $149* pp
Venture on to a full-day excursion to Morocco. Board a ferry from the Spanish port town of Algericas and head south to Ceuta, a Spanish town on the Moroccan coast, where a local guide will provide you with panoramic tour of the city. Next, embark on a walking tour of Tetuan, where you will visit the Plaza Hassan II, the Palacio Real (outside), the Plaza del Pilar, the Barrio Judio (Jewish Quarter) and the Zoco, as well as the great wall and the medina. Take a break with an included Moroccan lunch. Afterward and by request, enjoy a visit to the local handmade souvenirs market and a regional pharmacy. Please note: This optional runs as weather permits. As your trip will take you across an international border, your passport information is required when you reserve this excursion.
Day7
Drive from the mountains to the sea at Finca Cortesín
Breakfast
Only five years old, Finca Cortesín has quickly become one of Spain’s top ten courses. Stretching nearly 7,700 yards, the championship course boasts one of the longest layouts in Europe and has been a three-time host to the World Match Play Championships. After your morning round, kick back in the white-washed clubhouse or spend another day immersing yourself in the culture of Costa del Sol.
Day8
Challenge yourself on Europe’s top-rated course at Valderrama
Breakfast, Dinner
Test your game at Valderrama. Regarded as the top course in continental Europe, Valderrama has become the crown jewel of Spanish golf since serving as the site of the legendary 1997 Ryder Cup. With tight fairways and lightning-fast greens, the Robert Trent Jones-designed course delivers one of the world’s most sought-after rounds of golf. Afterward, set out to discover Gibraltar, where you’ll ascend the Rock of Gibraltar for a visit to St. Michael’s Cave and the Apes Den. Handicap cards
Your USGA-certified handicap card is your passport to the courses on this itinerary. It is essential that you bring either your card or a letter from your local pro attesting to your on-course proficiency.
Caddies & carts
Motorized golf carts are referred to as “buggies” in Spain; “carts” refer to pull-carts. Both buggies and carts are available at all courses for an additional fee. Caddies are unavailable at most courses on this itinerary.
Baggage allowance & club transport
Airlines have varying weight restrictions on luggage, and some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage. The cost of checking your golf bag is additional, and is not included in your final invoice. You should expect to pay an additional fee at the airport. Please contact your airline or refer to its website for detailed information regarding your airline’s checked baggage and golf bag transport policies. Airlines do permit one carry-on bag, provided that it does not exceed 45 inches (length + width + height), as well as one personal item such as a purse. Make sure you label your baggage and carry valuables, medication and documents in your carry-on baggage. The porterage provided on your tour includes one suitcase and one golf bag per person. Please note, however, that there may be times when you’ll have to handle your own bags, and you’ll find that lightweight baggage provides a distinct advantage.
Dress Code & etiquette
You should pack:
- Soft spikes—these will be required at all courses.
- Extra balls—these tend to be more expensive abroad.
- Collared golf shirts
- Tailored pants or Bermuda shorts
- Raincoat
You should know:
- Mobile phones and cameras are strictly prohibited at Valderrama.
Passport
In order to enter Spain, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport. The expiration date must extend at least six months beyond the date of your return home. No visa is required for U.S. or Canadian citizens. If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact the consulate for your specific entry requirements.
Health
There are no major health risks associated with traveling to Spain. Be sure to check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and overseas travel requirements.
Electricity
Spain operates on the European standard 240 volts.
Transportation
Round-trip flights arrive in Seville and depart from Malaga. Included transportation is by private motor coach. All of the cities and towns on this itinerary are accessible on foot, but you may want to break up periods of walking by using public transportation.
Time zones
Spain falls on Central European Time (CET), which is six hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST). When it’s noon in New York, it’s 6 p.m. in Spain.
Currency
The euro is the currency you’ll be using on your tour. Better rates of exchange are usually available in Spain, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive. We advise that you take a combination of bank/debit cards and credit cards. They may be used at ATMs, which are widely available in major cities (mostly on the Cirrus and Plus international networks). We suggest informing your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so they don’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
Tipping
At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity. We recommend tipping in your tour country’s currency, the equivalency of $3USD/CAD per person per day for your driver and $6USD/CAD to $9USD/CAD per person per day for your Tour Director. If applicable, we also recommend the equivalency of $2USD/CAD per local guide. Tips can only be paid in cash. Please keep current local currency exchange rates in mind when tipping.
