Passport & Visa Requirements

Valid government-issued identification is required for air travel within the United States. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please be sure to have your required identification with you as well.

Baggage Allowance

Airlines have varying weight restrictions on luggage. Be advised that most domestic airlines impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage, and that you are responsible for any such costs. Contact your airline for detailed information regarding luggage size and weight restrictions for your flight, but please note that Go Ahead travelers are restricted to one checked bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other internal transfers, which may include train connections or flights. One carry-on bag is also permitted, provided that it does not exceed 45 total inches (length + width + height). Make sure you label your baggage and carry valuables, medication and documents in your carry-on bag.

Health

Please be aware that you will be traveling at altitudes between 7,000 and 9,000 feet above sea level on this tour. These high altitudes can sometimes cause difficulty breathing and other health problems with travelers who have heart problems or respiratory ailments. If you suffer from any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor regarding any potential health risks. Even healthy travelers may sometimes experience altitude sickness, a temporary condition featuring symptoms of headache, fatigue, nausea and lightheadedness. Until your body acclimates to the higher altitudes, we suggest that you drink plenty of fluids and limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol. Otherwise, there are no major health risks when traveling to this region. During the summer months, take care for sun exposure and heat. It is always advisable to check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and personal travel requirements.

Clothing & Packing Tips

Light, loose-fitting clothing that provides comfort when exploring the sights is essential for your tour. A sun hat, sunglasses and a sturdy pair of walking shoes are recommended for sightseeing. Hiking boots might come in handy, if you plan to do any extensive walking or hiking. It’s always a good idea to be prepared for any eventuality—a lightweight jacket and emergency rainwear are advised. Restaurants are typically informal in this region of the United States.

Cuisine

One of the most enjoyable aspects of traveling is the delightful variety of local cuisine—even if you’re not traveling abroad. After all, the United States contains some of the most varied food in the world. Most of the cuisine is well-known to Americans, but look out for delicious Mexican and Spanish food in New Mexico.

Transportation

Flights arrive in Albuquerque, where a Go Ahead representative escorts you to Santa Fe for hotel check-in. Flights depart from Jackson. All included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.

Electricity

All regions operate on the U.S. standard 110 volts.

Time Zones

Most of your tour will fall on Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is two hours behind Eastern Standard Time (EST). Arizona is on Pacific Standard Time (PST) in the summer, which is three hours behind EST; and MST in the winter. For most of your tour, when it’s noon in New York City, it’s 10am on tour.

Currency

U.S. dollars will be the currency on your tour.

Tipping

At the conclusion of your tour, it is customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity. We recommend tipping in your tour country’s currency, the equivalent of $3USD/CAD per person per day for your driver and $6USD/CAD to $9USD/CAD per person per day for your Tour Director. If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD/CAD per local guide. Tips can only be paid in cash. Please keep current local currency exchange rates in mind when tipping.

Nat'l Parks Santa Fe to Yellowstone

What an AWESOME adventure! Our tour director, Stevyn Polk, loves what he does and made sure this trip was everything we had hoped for. The 6 National Parks and Monument Valley were incredible. The night we stayed in Mesa Verde at over 8000 ft was a great experience. We rode back into Monument Valley with the Navaho. We listened as a real Navaho Code Talker told his story! What an honor. Many animals appeared for our cameras. Yellowstone was AMAZING! I loved all the information and spectacular views our tour guide took us to. Can't wait to go again!

Hi Kathy! We enjoyed reading your review of your awesome adventure. We’re glad to learn that your Tour Director was a great help and a joy to be around. Staying at Mesa Verde, at an elevation of over 8000ft , sounds like a very cool experience, and we’re so glad you were able to have it. Also, hearing a talk from a Navaho Code Talker sounds like an interesting opportunity. We’re so pleased you felt like you came away from this tour with a greater understanding of the U.S. National Parks. Thank you for your review, and let us know when you’re ready to do it again!

The Canyon Lands Tour was truly an adventure! The National Park Canyon Lands came to life before our eyes, Just Awesome! Our tour director, Stevyn, was so informative and knowledgeable about all the National Parks visited. Plus he was always making sure every detail was covered to make the trip more enjoyable for everyone. Our bus was kept clean throughout the tour, and our bus driver, Bret, was first class. We recommend and plan to travel in the near future with Go Ahead Tours. Carter and John

Great tour

Everybody should see the greatness of the Southwest. Just stunning. Liked the size of our group only 25 people, would of been a lot less desirable with 35 or 40 people. Our tour director was Stevyn P., he was just amazing. I hope we have him as our tour director in the future.....

Hi John! We agree that the U.S. national parks are stunning! We're so glad you enjoyed the size of your group, as well as your Tour Director. Thank you for your review, and we look forward to welcoming you on tour again!

Best Tour Director

This is my sixth tour with Goahead and Phil was by far the most knowledgable tour director I have had. Not only could he answer every question thoroughly but he was totally organized throughout the trip. He even had a way of roatating our bus seats so there would be no problems. He was pleasant to everyone and really made this trip delightful. On the other hand the itinerary was grueling. I am not thrilled with staying only 1 night in each hotel with two exceptions. I understand that had to be done as we drove 1500 miles over the course of the trip. I admit I have to remedies to recommend to fix that. All in all an excellent trip.

Hi Roberta! We’re so glad your Tour Director made a wonderful impression on you and your group. It sounds like his expertise and professionalism contributed to the success of your tour, and we’re happy to hear it. Regarding the itinerary, you’re right that this tour covers a lot of ground, and as a result, requires shorter overnight stays in each accommodation than on some of our others tours. Despite this, we’re glad that you found this to be an excellent tour! Thank you for your feedback, and we look forward to welcoming you on tour soon.

Spectacular Scenery

The places you'll visit really look like those calendar pictures, gorgeous. Extras organized by our guide, Stevyn P., including a jeep tour of Monument Valley and a talk by a Navajo code talker, added a lot. The feeling of the group was relaxed.

Hi Carol! You certainly chose to visit a stunning part of the U.S.! We're so glad you enjoyed the beautiful sites and extras organized by your Tour Director. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we hope to welcome you on tour again.

5 Star Tour Director and Driver

Wonderful Trip - and Stevyn,, our tour director, brought it all to life! He added so much information and extra little "touches" that really added value to the tour. I was not anxious about riding a bus for that long - but the time flew. And Brett, our driver, was just terrific. He handled that bus like it was a VW! They treated us so well. I have no doubt that I will do another bus tour with GoAhead. They are organized and extremely professional. They really do their homework. I was impressed! We are already checking in to our next trip for 2017 - Maybe Alaska?? Thanks for a wonderful time!

Hi Mary! Wow, sounds like you had a great time! We’re so pleased that your Tour Director added many special touches to your tour. We’re also glad to hear that your driver made your bus experience pleasant and relaxing. Thank you for your feedback on Go Ahead staff. We will be sure to pass it along to their supervisors. We hope to welcome you on tour again – maybe Alaska!
