Keep a daily journal of what you saw and experienced

After a few days on the trip, the sites and experiences start to blend together.  I like to keep a daily journal of where we went to, what we saw, and the special moments that made the trip fun and memorable.  There's nothing like looking at the journal a few months after having returned from the trip and sharing them with friends.

I agree.  I kept a journal of our England trip and it is very enjoyable to go back and relive the many experiences and funny happenings.  Also, it comes in real handy when arranging pictures while scrapbook.  My mother constantly calls me to ask "What day did we vist this or that?"

Re: Keep a daily journal of what you saw and experienced

Kept a moment-to-moment journal on each of 7 European trips taken during past 10 yrs.  Within few weeks of returning home, while the events are still somewhat fresh in my mind, I type up a story of the trip.  Story, along w/photos are placed in album.  On a snowy day (we live in Midwest) albums of past trips are pulled off shelf, and make for marvelous reminiscing of trips taken.   While on these trips, my travel companions would often ask, "what was the name of restaurant where we ate dinner last night?", or,  "did you write down the name of the mountains we saw off in the distance yesterday?"

This is an excellent idea, because it also helps when sorting through photos that you've taken.  I used a small spiral bound notebook that fit into my Go Ahead bag or purse/backpack.  I filled out tour and hotel info before the trip also and jotted down hotel room numbers as we went along our trip so I wouldn't forget.  The other thing I brought with me and I am still listening to -a small microcassette recorder.  I tape recorded our Tour Director on the bus, I recorded some of the tours we went on through castles, museums, Abbeys, etc. and I just sat the recorder on the dinner table that picked up conversations and dinner entertainment.  I marked the cassettes in numerical order so when I re-listen I can do so in the order of the trip.
